You can experiment with all the UPDs that you like, there shouldnt be any harm with a little trial and error.  You can also use print drivers taht are loaded directly to the server.  For example the old LJ4000 drivers are our fallback driver option when nothing else works.  The only risk with using an older printer is taht all the the new features since its release wouldnt be supported.  However, basic print functionality usually isnt a problem and is good enough for many users.

That is a fair and reasonable request.  Unfortunetly, I dont see any documentation from HP to suggest that this is possible with this particular printer model.  It might be best to give HP a call and ask them for an answer.  Prefix should be a prefix, not an entire file name.  I would expect the printer to auto increment scan jobs accordingly.

You could try a firmware update incase you have an old version where this feature was not working correctly too.

Re: False Paper Jam Messages on X576dw MFP

One of the sensors on the paper path must be getting blocked by debris.  This is giving the printer the impression that a page has become stuck.  That or a roller is malfunctioning.

A good place to start looking is the Clear Jams section of the User Guide:

http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c03640400-3.pdf

Go through the various options and see if you can clear the problem on your own.  Worst case scenario your printer is still covered under warranty.  Give HP a call and have them service the printer for you.

Re: Error while scanning

Looks like a permissions issue.

Printers by default do not have any network credentials.  They negotiate with network appliances as an annonymous user.  If your scan destination happens to be blocking those permissions then your scan will not work. The same process occurs when you force a user to sign into the printer and create scan jobs under thier own ID.

I normally suggest scanning to a destination that is completly open on the network.  I also test scanning to different locations to see if its somehow related to that particular destination.  Final tests usually involve removing the printer from the network and scanning to a different test network destination to prove the components are working correctly.  Be sure to test scanning directly to an IP address instead of a server hostname.  Sometimes DNS entries can get confused when printers are thrown into the mix.

If you have access or know someone who does then you can sniff/capture authentication packets as they hit your destination and/or authentication system.  Analyze those packets for more information on why your credentials are failing.

Re: M4345 MFP Making awful noise only when printing from tray 2

After a bit more testing I may be even more confused now. I swapped the tray with a known good one, the noise persists. I printed from Tray 3 and the noise persists.  Now to be more specific, the sound only occurs during the first page of any print job (I was only printing single test pages before, so I didn't notice). So whether a document is 5 or 10 pages, it only makes the noise during the first print - which would lead me to believe it was the tray lifting motor.  I ran through the diagnostic menu, and ran every available test, including the tray 2 lift motor test.  Not one diagnostic test caused the sound. Now I'm really stumped. To solve this problem I have to know what part is exclusive to tray 2 & tray 3 and only operates during the beginning of each print job. I don't want to wait until it fails, as the noise is pretty irritating to users around the printer. I uploaded a video of the sound with the hopes that it may jog someone's memory - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYIijyGASxk

Thanks again!

Only on the first page and on all trays eh?  Could it be a cartridge issue?  For example when the cartridge doors open up to expose toner to the paper.  I believe that process would only happen once per job.  If you got a spare cartridge it might be worth it to swap it out and retest.

The noise sounded more squeeky then grindy but that may be a result of the YouTube recording.  Almost like its more of a rubber roller getting too close to the edge of something.  I think of pickup rollers for something like that but then again those noises should be persistant for each page you feed through the printer.

To clarify, it's not on all trays. Tray 1 (manual feed) produces no sounds. This leads me to believe it can't be the cartridge (but I swapped it out anyway, the sound persists). Trays 2 & 3 produce the sound in the video (which, you're right, I would describe more as a squeaking than a grinding). I can watch as a tray is inserted, the paper level indicator on the tray moves upwards, but no sound is made, which means it isn't the tray lifting motor. The sound starts after that tray is picked up and after the main drive motor starts. The sound doesn't occur during power-on or warm up. There has to be just one pesky part or roller or assembly that only activates during tray 2 & 3 usage and more specifically, only during the start of multi-page jobs. I can rule out all the print process mechanisms, as they don't produce the sound when printing from Tray 1.

Thanks for sticking with me, I know this issue seems a little nebulous.

Kernel Errors and Fatal Error 61

I have a Laserjet Pro CM1415fnw color MFP.  I had no problems printing with this printer until yesterday.  I tried printing from MS Word and Adobe and the printer just spits out various PCL XL Errors.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers with no changes.  I also tried to update the firmware, but the printer shows Fatal Error 61 when I try.  I am using Windows 8.1.  My husband has no problems with the printer, and he uses Windows 7.  The printer is on a wireless network.

I could really use some suggestions.  I'm at my wits end.

It would be helpful to know the model of your printer.

Same issues here. I have mutiple Firware Errors. The Firmware Update OJPX476DW_CN1432DR.exe doesn't even see my printer. But I can print fine normally.

How can I update my firmware?

We have X576dw and we cannot save scans to our NetApp Storage.

Looks like HP has implemented a weird form of SMB as the X576dw is the only device in a multinational organisation that cannot access our NetApp Storage system at all.

One thing to keep in mind is when you print from tray 1 the speed of everything including fuser and toner is at about 1/3 normal speed.  The slower speed probably hides the noise.  To be honest I really think the swingplate is still your issue.  Perhaps it is not sitting right or the replacement part has issues.  It could also be a fuser issue since it may only occur when the fuser speeds up to start printing and then stops making noise since it is warmed up after 1 page.  Also it will not be the tray lift motor as then raises the paper when the tray is inserted and does very little while the printer is printing except provide a small amount of upward pressure to the bottom plate of the tray to keep the paper in the up position.

I may be a bit off here, but I do not remember any case where loading a driver also updated the firmware of a printer.  My understanding is you have to download the latest firmware version and specifically choose a method to download the verison to the printer.  If I am correct your issue may not be a firmware issue but a defective formatter which is very common with this printer.  There is a way to repair these boards if your issue is cold solder joints with the main processor on the board.  Here are the instructions which you can try since you have nothing to lose at this point.  Remove the formatter from the printer and remove any extra memory chips and any black tape which may be on the board.  Place the board in a baking pan with the chips facing up and the board propped up so the bottom does not touch the pan.  Now prehead a good oven to 350F (177C) and when the oven is ready, place the pan with the board in the oven for 8 minutes.  Remove and let cool for 10 minutes.  Place back in the printer and see what happens.  I just clicked on the link you provided and the package you reference does not contain the firmware and is only the complete software solution (fax, print, scan) for your printer.  It did not do anything with your firmware and I assume your issue is a bad formatter for which you can try my solution.

Re: HP LaserJet Color Flow M575 MFP - Problem configuring scan to email

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your suggestion.  I use Outlook email clients, but finally figured out it was the Port/SMTP Server settings that needed to be changed.

It occurred to me I already have a Xerox Phaser 6180 MFP-D in another location configured with scan to email capability using a similar Shaw email account.

Checking the settings on that device shows that it uses Port 25 and a different SMTP server (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net instead of mail.shaw.ca).  As it turns out, the latter SMTP server requires authentication and is used for mobile devices operating from various locations.  The former SMTP server still uses Port 25 and does not require authentication.

Once I imported these settings into the HP LaserJet ColorFlow M575 MFP configuration settings, I was able to successfully send a test message.  Problem solved!

Cheers,

Dave2U

OfficeJet Pro 8600 size mismatch error

I am finding the same problem but under completely different circumstances.

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 wired connection to router.  Two computer wired connection to router.  Three computer wireless connections.

Working from wired MS Windows 7, or wired MacBook Pro OSX 10.10, I get into the word processor and make a unique paper size.  Exactly 6.96 inches by 3.50 inches.  I load paper stock with the identical size.

Trying to print a test page the HP Office Jet Pro throw a size mismatch error.  Since all seemed right I turned on my packet sniffer and repeated the test.

Looking at the low level packets the only thing that appears out of the ordinary is this message repeating over and over as I am trying to print.

What, exactly, do you think is "the same" (or even similar) in your
situation?

> Working from wired MS Windows 7, or wired MacBook Pro OSX 10.10, [...]

This is a VMS forum, not a forum for Windows, Mac OS X, or HP
printers.

> [...] I get into the word processor [...]

   Which "the word processor"?

> [...] I load paper stock with the identical size.

And how big does the printer think that this stock is?  Do you think
that there's a little man with a tape measure inside the printer to
determine the dimensions of the paper?  Or might you need somehow to

inform the printer that it is now loaded with some non-standard-size
stock?

> Trying to print a test page the HP Office Jet Pro throw a size
> mismatch error.

As usual, the exact text of the message, and where it appears, might
be more useful than your interpretation of the message.

> Since all seemed right I turned on my packet sniffer and repeated the
> test.

That probably wouldn't be my first diagnostic step.

You might try submitting your problem to some appropriate forum (one
concerned with the printer in question, for example).  Awakening this
old and unrelated thread here may not be the most efficient way to solve

your problem.
