As long as you are printing from a HP color printer then your color cartridges are going to be consumed over time. This is what a color printer is designed to do. There are multiple reasons why it happens, some are direct and some are indirect as a result of the technology for cartridges. The only way to print black only without risking consumption of color cartridges is to purchase a black only printer.
