I was facing the similar problem. I did following & solved the problem
1. Removed the HP LJ 1500M driver from Control Panel -> printers & devices -> remove device
2. UnInstalled HP printer installation software
3. Reboot system
4. Start installing HP printer installation software. -> when prompted, I connected printer to my laptop -> installation was completed.
5. Scanning functionality was working fine.
