C310a Multi Function Printer - "The Following Ink Cartridge(s) appear to be missing or damaged"

I have been unable to get my printer to print for hte past 3+ months. The error mesage says the Cyan cartridge is missing or damaged and neither appear to be the case. 

 

From this forum and other areas we have tried different cartridges, I have cleaned the contacts, I have even removed the tray and cleaned that thoroughly. I've tried resetting the printer. None of these things work and given the number of others with the similar problem it seems to be an overall design flaw issue. Of course by now the warranty has long expired

 

What are my options to get this thing fixed? I know we all say 'They don't build them like the used to' and that continues to be the case. I have a 10 year old large format HP ink jet printer and that continues to work flawlessly.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.
