The problem and fix are as follows:  I had this oproblem one month ago. I googled this error and got to an HP web site, the last coploe of entries had explainted the problem and solution.  I followed and it worked.

Here it is.

Problem the Pancake Motor located in uppoer right had corner under the glass is burnt out and will no longer turn.  this needs to be replaced.  YOU start by taking off the scammer top, by disconnecting the cable attaching the top and pulling it off.  there is a clip holding top in place.

Next you unscrew the 5 screws holding the galss platnum to the unit.. Yu will need a Hex screw driver to take off.

When yoy take off the glass, if you smell a burnt smell, you know it is the pancake motor.  If the slider will not move by hand you know the motor is seized up or and once you remove the motor you will see the motor is seized up.

The pancake motor is in the upper right hand corner and is held in place by 2 screws.  Remove the motor and you will see it is likely seized up.

Next you need a motor.   Must have been a bad motor, because HP has a new part number.  The old part number on the motor is likely Q3948-60186 made by MITSUMI.

The new part number is RK2-1567-000CN.  I believe it cost about $46.00 from HP.  I got this information when i called HP looking for the part and they could not fnd the old part number.  HP was helpfull in that they emailed me in PDF a copy of the Printers service Manual.  If you to pages 288 and 289 you will see the correct PN and the motor is onpage 288 and is listed as part 33.

I was lucky.  I had the same unit that had the electrics blow out a couple of years ago in an electirical storm, that I had saved.  I performed my first surgery on my old unit and pulled put its motor and it was easy.  Then I pulled apart my current machine and the moment I took the glass off I could smell the smell.

I replace the motor, put it back together and all worked and is still working.

You will need to reset all of the settings.

Happy hunting.  If you need any more assistance, please feel free to write.
