Thank you forum:
My M2727nf was giving me the scanner error 5. I googled and made my way to this forum.
After reading, I tried the last fix of taking the glass plate off, locating the little motor and replacing same, and re-installing plate.
Eureka, it now works like new (so far).
Several comments:
1) when I took the glass off, whoever said you will smell a strong burnt electrical smell was correct.
2) After removing the old motor - it was seized up and did not turn at all.
3) I was lucky, I had the exact same unit which had been fried in an electrical storm several years ago and I removed the motor from ththis old unit, it turned and I used it.
4) I called HP parts and they could not find the model number (Q3948-60186-B) everyone posted. The telephone person did give me a different model number of RK2-1567-000CN and she emailed me the serivce manual. This new part number can be found in the service manual at page 289 of the manual and is shown at page 288 of the manual. The cost of the part was $46.00.
I want to thank all of you for your guidance.
PS: Now that I am feeling embolded on my old unit that was fried from an electrical storm, what should i look at and or test to see if it is fixable by me?
thanks in advance for your thoughts.
