First thing you need to do is print a config page and then scan that and post as a sample. That will give us a reference point as we do not know what you scan is supposed to look like. Second remove the jet direct card with the power off and then do a cold reset of the unit to restore the factory defaults. Most times if you get a scan the issue is not the scanning assembly since it will usually work or not work. If there were dirty optics, the the image would be light and dark in areas and not consistent. To perform a cold reset press the select button (check mark) and hold down as you power on the printer until all 3 lights come on solid. Release and press the up button till you see cold reset in the menu. Press the select button and let the printer come to ready. Make a copy and see if the image has improved.
