If you see a horizontal black line on the white foam backing of the scanner, you will need to remove the plastic covering. Use strong adhesive tape or a fingernail to peel the plastic covering off of the foam backing. After the plastic covering has been removed, the surface of the white foam backing will be matte instead of glossy.
