Either there is some debris on the scanning glass that is picking up when you scan or the hardware is defective. Try cleaning the unit one more time with the steps that are provided in the User Manual.
You can isolate this a little more by comparing the ADF to the Flatbed on your scans. If the problem is consistent with both then the hardware is going out. If the problem only appears on one then that area is dirty and should be cleaned.
