I have a LaserJet M425dn. A couple of weeks ago, our printer support folks came out and replaced a system board in it. I just realized that the serial number is now reported as XXXXXXXXXX. We use a service that monitors our printer for toner levels and automatically re-orders toner. This service relies on SNMP reporting the correct serial number. I had a LaserJet 8150 with the same issue where I was able to reset the serial number by sending a text file to the printer via FTP. However, the M425dn doesn't seem to respond to an FTP connection.
I just got off an HP support chat that was pointless. He had me do an NVRAM initialization and a reset to defaults. I knew neither would solve the problem. After that, he basically gave up and gave me a case ID.
Does anyone know how to reset the serial number on the LaserJet M425dn?
