I have an HP LaserJet 400 MFP 425dn with basically the same issue.
What is happening:
Scan Multip.le page .PDF document to network folder
MFP shows no error on the screen however it does seem to take an longer time to finish after the last page goes through the ADF.
Return to desk and see file so attempt to open.
Acrobat reader opens and looks like it is opening the file
Get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired"
What I have done:
To same network location:
1. Tested with a single page document. Success
2. Tested .TIF instead of .PDF. Success
Set up local share on my laptop. Added scan to menu on device. Scanned multi page document to laptop. Opened document. Success
Firmware Datecode: 20140521
Our printer support company has replaced everything except the outer case and it still fails.
The strange part is it worked just fine for about a year then one Monday morning it just wouldn't work anymore. No network changes or updates to the machine. No other scanners are experiencing this issue.
I have followed suggestions from changing to/from FQDN and IP for the destination. I have verified permissions to the locations even though it is obvious that isn't the issue or I wouldn't be able to scan .TIFF files to the same location.
This is becoming quite frustrating as we have to do a lot of scanning for government purposes.
Any and all help would be much appreciated.
