Re: HP-PSC 1317 all-in-one problem

Hi John Getzke,

Thanks again. This time I did the following.

With 1317 plugged in
1. checked Device Manager lists and 'uninstalled' the DOT4 and 1310 series stuff, printer and scanner.
2. rebooted
3. ran 'HP Print and Scan Doctor 4.5', which said 'Product: psc 1310 series; Connect: USB; Software Status: Not installed'.

Now I assume this is because the 1317 is plugged in and is providing some ID information ... clicking 'continue' the
message is "The full software for your product is not installed on this computer" and the software offers
'Get Installer' - which fails because the page is not on the HP site!   Anyway ...
4. unplugged the 1317, and rebooted the laptop
5. checked again for any 'HP*' and 'Hewlett-Packard*' files and directories in c://.
All 'HP/' directories and contents were deleted.
All 'Hewlett-Packard/' directories and contents were deleted or the directories renamed.
In'c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\' the two hppsc_1300_series directories and content were deleted.
The files 'hp*' (.exe and .dll files) in 'c:\WINDOWS\sysem32' were not deleted.
The files 'HP*' in 'c:\windows\prefetch\' (.pf ? files) were not deleted.
The files 'c:\windows\temp\hp*' (.log files) were deleted.
The files 'c:\windows\inf\' (.inf & .PNF files) were not deleted, e.g. hpdigwia.inf and .PNF; hpojscan.inf and .PNF.
Many other 'hp*' files scattered in several other (?incidental) directories were left unaffected.
6. rebooted
7. located the HP recommended download for the HP 1317, it is 'gc_w01_ENU_NB.exe' which took 42 minutes
to download, and is 351,518 KB - clearly a massive "system" for such a small driver file requirement; is
this correct?
When executed it generated the pop up 'AiOSoftware' with the message "The feature you are trying to use
is on a network resource that is unavailable". OK or Cancel ... clicked 'OK' to try again ...
But
C:\DOCUME~1\<my user id>\LOCALS~ 1\Temp\7zS037B\Setup\AiOSoftware\
is not there ... clicked 'Cancel'.
This then generates "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product AiOSoftware. The Windows
installer cannot continue".
After getting the same error 3 times (and clicking OK or Cancel as seemed appropriate ...), the
installer appears to finish with "The software installation for your HP All-In-One Series is
complete.
However, after clicking 'Finish'  no more is done ... the installer stops?

I can only assume that the 'gc_w01_ENU_NB.exe' file is faulty or that the installer process is faulty
in that it depends on a file that it has not generated?
However, 'HP Image Zone' and 'HP Director' are available.
8. Invoke 'HP Director' from the desktop. This produces a 'Internet Explorer Script Error' window with
message "An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line 240 Char 3 Unspecified error Code 0
URL .../bbfe/director/js/dir3.js.
Stopped the script to exit.
9. Invoke 'HP Image Zone' from the desktop. This produces the usual screen, but no scanner is available.
10. Invoking the 'hp psc 1310 series' scanner, and using the 'Scanner and Camera Wizard' gets the
message "The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera. Please make sure the device is turned on
and is properly connected to the computer". Which is the same message as before ...

I have clearly gone wrong somewhere! Perhaps the AiOSoftware is more critical than I thought...? Is
this a download problem perhaps...? Or is there still something that I should have deleted/cleaned up?

I repeated step 7. Assuming that there had been was an HP installer glitch in that the AiOSoftware
had not loaded. The installer invited me to uninstall, which I did, it then noted that "No drivers
were installed" but several files needed to be deleted. Clicked 'OK' to this. Got error window 'HP All in One
Series' window 'Cleanup progress, Removing unnecessary components ... Current progress - psc 1310 (DOT4PRINT)
Overall Progress - Step 11/13 - 76%', an 'ICE Uninstaller' window appears with message "ICE uninstaller
has encountered a problems and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". Examining the
error report, the Error signature is "AppName: hpzscr01.exe AppVer 3.0.0.76 ModName hpzscr01.exe ModVer:
3.0.0.76 Offset: 000307c0.

Stymied and lost at this point. Any suggestions? There seem to be a lot of reports on the web that
this HP installer often fails with simple driver load tasks such as this? Is the task of installing
a driver that much more complicated for HP kit?

Regards - BM9.
