Re: Standard User Acct. & Installation Issue (Win7)

UAC is already disabled and "Run as Administrator" produces the same [failed] result (it doesn't even ask for the admin pw) for both running the CD installation and running the downloaded Full Feature Suite from HP.

I suppose further details on the situation may help.

The company I work IT for has about 200 field workers issued laptops and HP 6600 printers. The workers all operate their computers on Standard User accounts and up until now there hasn't been a problem.

Currently we've undergone a computer upgrade process (due to Microsoft's end of service for XP in April) where we swapped out Dell D610s w/ Win XP to Dell D630s w/ Win 7.

As stated earlier we have a standard user account for the worker and an administrator account for IT service.

Is there anyway to grant some sort of administrative rights with regards to installing printers on the standard user accounts? The administrator account is for IT service only (due to the security issue with revealing the current pw).

The only viable option I have found and employed on a test computer is adding that standard user account to the "Administrators" Group through Group Policy Editor.

But to my understanding, this removes all the benefits of operating daily functions through a standard account?

So, I'm trying to resolve an issue completely caused by my lack of proper foresight. I preloaded the printer drivers for the 6600s on each laptop by running the CD installation on the admin account before issuing them out and nobody has a problem connecting to their printer and installing it (through Devices and Printers -> "Add a Printer" -> Add a Wireless/Bluetooth printer...etc.) but the scan feature (which I didn't test!) is unusable.

In other words:

How can I get a standard user account to run the installation process from the HP CD?
