Q: Do these printers require the additional HP scanning software to accomplish this?
A: No, you can use 3rd party scanning applications that come standard on the users OS such as Paint or the MS scanner and camera wizard. However, you do need to have the scan drivers installed in one way or another.
Q: Can this be centralized on the server?
A: Yes, we use HPs DSS to centralize scanning for our network scanners. DSS is compatible with the 1415 so all the user has to do is scan to email or folder from the control panel. Otherwise the CM1415 is designed to be a personal use or direct attached printer. The scanning software that comes with this model is designed to be installed on the clients machine and not on a server. Id suggest downloading the latest full software solution for your users OS from the HP support website and configuring them accordingly.
