There is one similar issue documented, it might be worth following through the steps, this is HP solution from their advisories and it's a customer viewable item.
Although it states blank copies I would check this, in most cases the symptom may have some variation to the one in the advisories.

Workaround #1
If the Wide A4 setting is not necessary, the setting can be disabled by accessing the
following touch screen control panel menu selections:
ADMINISTRATION\DEVICE BEHAVIOR\GENERAL PRINTING BEHAVIOR\ WIDE A4
= Disabled
If the Wide A4 setting is necessary, the following methods can be used as a
workaround:
Workaround #2
Scan the originals through the ADF or place them on the Scanner glass in the shortedge
fashion.
Workaround # 3
Turn on “Edge-to-Edge” ON for copy jobs.
This setting can be enabled by accessing the following touch screen control panel
menu selections:
ADMINISTRATION\DEFAULT JOB OPTIONS\DEFAULT COPY OPTIONS\ Edge-to-
Edge =
Edge-to Edge Output

NOTE: For this issue, the Edge-to-Edge setting will provide correct output but in some
circumstances may have other side effects. These side effects may be seen if full page
graphical documents such as PowerPoint
® slide sets are being copied almost
exclusively. If this is done on a regular basis, toner may build up on the fuser rollers
and cause paper jams. To remedy this, Edge-to-Edge may need to be disabled.

Workaround #4
Turn ON “Auto Include margins” for copy jobs.
This setting can be enabled by accessing the following touch screen control panel
menu selections:
ADMINISTRATION\DEFAULT JOB OPTIONS\DEFAULT COPY OPTIONS\
Auto
Include Margins = ON
This will allow scanning of originals in Long-Edge but will reduce the document to
include all of the original data on the original.
