This one is really a stretch for most who follow these forums.  There are not too many linux or mac folks around to check into this so I will attempt to do my best.

For starters, not only is this a linux enviornment but your scan application is being used only so that it can be compressed by another application later on.  The HP scan software works, but the compression software produces an error so there isnt much for us to go off of for providing suggestions on the HP side of this.

I'd doubt that this is the best place for you to research this problem.  If the HP printer is printing and scanning fine then that is where HP support will draw the line.  How a 3rd party compression application treats those documents is up to the 3rd party to discover and support.

The best and only suggestion I have for you is to uninstall and reinstall your HP software with the latest update.  With any luck there was something corrupted with your first install that can be easily repaired with a clean install.  Otherwise you will have to look into a different compression application, one that can handle the output created by HP or a different application to create the PDF from scratch.
